About Sarge
As a child I used to trace the art of Kirby, Ditko, Steranko, BWS and several others. I traced onto onion skin paper in bold black and then on the reverse side of the paper I would colour the pictures with felt tip markers. The colours on the front had a printed look to them and the scratchy felt tip lines were not visible. I did it for fun.
I coloured every chance I had but never thought of doing it for a living until I started working with my great friend Shane Foley from Australia. I bought a computer and things would never be the same. His art and encouragement inspired me and we have done a lot of work together since. Some you will see here.
Having loved Silver Age Marvel since I was a child I feel that my main influence is Stan Goldberg. The man was a genius with the limited palette he had to work with. I loved those white highlighted covers he did.
My work was printed for a two year run in KRASH, a monthly magazine in Australia. "The Saga of Shakah-Rune" with art by Shane Foley who also wrote and created the series. Shane and I worked on another Australian hero doing a few Panther covers. I also had a hand in colouring the Dark Nebula TPB that was recently released in Australia.
I finished colouring a Gene Colan piece in 2007 that may see print soon on the cover of a U.K. book.
I also had a fine time working with Gary Carlson and Joe (JazZ) Zierman in '07 doing the cover for Big Bang Presents #5.
Other magazines I’ve done work for and/or have been featured in are The Jack Kirby Collector (coloured the cover to issue #45) and Alter Ego (designed and coloured one of the flip covers for # 27).
I am currently working on the Superman/K-Metal story http://k-metal.cc/ , writing a novel and writing songs.
